Solukhumbu is the legendary home of Mount Everest (8,848m) and the Sherpa people — the heartbeat of Himalayan mountaineering. The region encompasses Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protecting some of the world's highest mountains, deep gorges, glaciers, and rare wildlife. The Everest Base Camp trek through Solukhumbu is arguably the world's most famous trek, passing through the bustling Sherpa capital Namche Bazaar, the spiritual Tengboche Monastery, and up to the foot of the world's highest peak. Beyond Everest, the region offers equally spectacular Gokyo Lakes, the Cho La Pass, and the Khumbu Glacier. The Sherpa culture — with its distinct language, monasteries, and traditions — adds profound human depth to one of Earth's most dramatic landscapes.
The Everest Base Camp Trek, Gokyo Valley Trek, and Three Passes are world-class trekking routes in this region.

March to May and September to November are the two prime trekking seasons with stable weather, clear views, and comfortable temperatures. Winter treks are possible but cold; summer is largely blocked by monsoon clouds.
Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (Tenzing-Hillary Airport) — a 40-minute scenic flight and the most common starting point. Alternatively, a 9-day walk from Salleri is possible for the truly adventurous.
